Fostering Community, Creativity, and Connections
​in the Music Classroom

Workshop Description:​​  In this workshop, participants will experience a mix of high-interest games, children's literature, drumming, and mallet activities designed to create a dynamic classroom community. Prepare for fun with tongue twisters, and strategies to foster improvisation. Explore ways to use movement to create a safe space and a place for all learners.

Clinician Biography: Kay Lehto recently retired from teaching  K - 8 music in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Prior to that she taught K-12 music at a rural school in Michigan, secondary music at Ng’iya Girls’ High School in Kenya, East Africa, and primary school music in the Cayman Islands.  She also teaches movement and Level 1 Pedagogy.  Kay has served as AOSA Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and has chaired two national conferences.  In 2002 her elementary students performed at the opening session of the Las Vegas Conference, and her middle school mallet group, Dragon Scale Mallets,  performed at the 2018 conference in Cincinnati.
